River Thames Home Park 3rd Oct 21

The Thames at Home Park was in a tricky mood for round seven of the series on Sunday. Recent heavy rain meant the river was pushing hard and combined with the strong winds, it all made it very difficult for the competing anglers.

Perry Fairclough ran out a clear winner with an excellent 19-8-0 of mainly roach and dace caught on the pole from the favoured downstream end of the venue. Perry fished maggot over regularly fed balls of groundbait to keep the fish coming steadily throughout the day. Simon Pavey finished with a very respectable 9-10-0 to take the runner up spot, and third was Ryan Fairclough who’s 8-12-0 catch included a bonus pound and a half chub.

The deep pegs in the channel proved to be a real challenge with the fast-paced deep water and the strong wind making handling a top five deep rig very difficult. For that reason Man of theMatch go’s to fourth placed angler and section winner Mike Smith who did extremely well to put together a catch of 6-10-0 caught on a variety of methods including a running rig, a flattie and a whip from his swim in the channel.
