Marriners Pool 5th Feb ’23

Round eleven of the championship took place at our very own Marriners Pool, and we were grateful to the club and Dave the bailiff for letting us have the venue for the day at short notice. The fishing was very difficult for the eighteen anglers competing, with just a few small bream, skimmers and roach feeding and making up the weights.

Gary Bloomfield returned to the match group after a lengthy break to take top spot on the day with just 9-14-0 of mainly skimmers caught on a cage feeder fished at short range on the south bank. The runner up spot went to Clive Bunday who had half a dozen skimmers on the long pole to weigh in 6-8-0, and third was Perry Fairclough with a catch of 5-2-0 which included a bonus bream of 2-12-0 to boost his catch of small roach and perch.

The section winners were Ryan Fairclough (bonus 2lb hybrid) and Glen Briggs, and the specimen was won by Perry with his bream. It is unfortunate that the venue fished so hard as several of the match group have been fishing there during the winter months and have been catching some very respectable weights of bream and roach and even a few of the venue’s excellent tench. Next up is Milton Pools and with the weather looking to turn milder we will hopefully have a good match.
