River Colne Rickmansworth 5th Sep 21

Conditions on the Colne were far from perfect for Sunday’s club match with the river running low and clear, and as usual, bigger bonus fish played a key part in scoring well with the top three anglers all featuring them in their catches.

Clive Bunday notched up his first win with the club with two 5lb bream plus a couple of pounds of smaller fish from his peg below the weir. Clive fished maggots on the stick float run along the far bank to tempt the two slabs and other bits and pieces which were mainly small perch. Keith Gibson made a switch from running a stick float through which had yielded a few small fish, to a flat float and worm held in the flow, and immediately hooked a decent fish which unfortunately came off. Five minutes later he was rewarded with a superb 7-13-0 bream which boosted his weight to give him the runner up spot. Third place went to Mike Smith who’s catch included a lovely 5-7-0 chub, and the section winners were Mick Catten and Perry Fairclough, with the specimen being won with Keith’s superb bream. Man of the Match go’s to Mick Catten who worked his peg hard for a 7-4-0 catch of small fish all caught on the pole. Mickey found that fishing a long lash between his float and the pole tip helped to keep the bites coming as the fish were backing away from the pole in the clear shallow water.
