Goldsworth Park Lake

5th August 2018

Team Chenery dominated round two of the championship series in this most difficult of matches at a moody Goldsworth Park. With only ounces separating the top three, and bites at a premium, it was a case of trying to keep a cool head in the blistering heat, and staying focussed to the end in this endurance test of a match. Ron Chenery, pegged on the south bank with no shelter from the merciless sun, managed to do just that, and following a good start on the feeder, he was a clear leader with five bream in his net by mid-match. But, the bites dried up and with reports coming through that other anglers were starting to pick up the odd bream here and there, and Ron’s tip remaining motionless, the pack were closing in on him. With only minutes of the match remaining and four anglers on five bream each, Ron got the bite he’d waited so patiently for and slipped the net under a sixth bream to seal a hard earned victory with a weight of just 16-7-0. Second place went to Darren Chenery with five bream for 16-1-0, just a few ounces behind his dad, and third was Irish bream machine Declan Kelly with five bream and a few small fish for 15-13-0. Section winners were Mike Smith and Doug Read, and three anglers, Keith Gibson, Ron Chenery and Darren Chenery shared the specimen pot with a bream of 4-4-0 each.
