Wood Lane

Declan Kelly with one of his quality carp. His 73-13-0 haul fell just short of the biggest match weight of the series so far.

28th January 2018

Declan Kelly scored his third win of the series in a hard-fought battle at a packed Wood Lane fishery on Sunday, and with almost every peg taken and a stiff westerly breeze blowing, the fishing was quite difficult for some. Declan, who was drawn in a corner at the west end of the lake, started slowly and was falling behind Dave Mustoe and Glen Briggs who both found carp early in the match. It wasn’t until Declan decided to fish long at 17.5 metres that he managed to locate some carp, and a late surge saw him overtake the leaders and go on to win the match. Fishing bread over loose fed pellet, he took seven quality fish for a total of 73-13-0. Second place went to Glen Briggs with 52-15-0, and Third was Dave Mustoe with 44-10-12 which included a lovely carp of 16-13-0, the biggest fish of the series so far. Stuart Pollmer took the final frame place with 30-11-8 from a peg on the corner of the island on the north bank, and section winners were Ron Chenery, Richard Day and Stuart Pollmer (by default). This latest win see’s Declan move up into joint fourth place in the league table, a well-deserved reward for a superb performance on the day and some excellent scores throughout the series.

Runner up Glen Briggs started well catching on the pole, but knew the game was up when Declan started catching late in the corner Dave Mustoe with his 16-13-0 carp. Dave doesn’t mess around and soon had this beast wallowing in the bottom of his net   Stuart Pollmer did very well to fish the long pole to the island with the full force of the wind funnelling down the channel
