Glen Briggs with his winning bag. With the river running clear the roach were sitting ducks for the marauding pike
8th October 2017
The Thames at Home Park Windsor fished much better than many had expected following last week’s low weight affair at Runnymede, and although the river was running clear, the mild overnight temperatures and beautifully warm October day saw it give up some decent weights. Despite being pestered by marauding pike, top place went to Glen Briggs with a 14-8-0 bag of mainly small roach and gudgeon which were taken on pole tactics fishing maggot and caster over groundbait and molehill. Mike Smith continues his incredible run and came second with a mixed bag of 14-4-0 which included a superb 2-4-0 perch that won the specimen on the day. Third place went to the ever consistent Graham Fox with an excellent 11-4-0 of mainly small roach and gudgeon caught using pole tactics. In fourth place was Declan Kelly who also won his section with a bag of mainly perch of 6-9-0 and Frank Bursnall won his section with a catch of 1-15-0. Although only eight of the nineteen matches of the championship have been completed, this series is already starting to look interesting.
