Wood Lane (Back Lake)

15th March 2020

Round seventeen of the championship at Wood Lane turned out to be a difficult but not uneventful match. For those who were drawn on the usual ‘feature’ pegs there were bites to be had, but as so often is the case at this venue, those drawn in open water struggled badly. Mike Smith continued his excellent run of form catching nine carp to win the match with 73-5-0 from favoured peg eleven, ahead of Stuart Pollmer who was not far behind in second spot with 68-12-0. In third spot was club President Bob Lane who did very well to catch five carp from a not particularly good area and the section winners were Stuart Pollmer (Stuart was not in the overall pools) and Perry Fairclough. Graham Fox had a superb perch of 3-0-0 which is now recorded on the specimen list. Doug Read hooked a carp that broke his pole and swam off towing it away. He spent the best part of an hour casting around which was time well spent as he eventually managed to snare his rig with the pole and carp still attached. The carp weighed 14-6-0 and won the specimen on the day, and also got Doug through to the semi-final of the knockout competition.

1 – Mike Smith – 73-5-0
2 – Stuart Pollmer – 68-12-0
3 – Bob Lane – 48-2-0

Doug Read – Carp – 14-6-0
