We had a bright cold day to greet us after a spell of unsettled but mild weather during the preceding week. It turned out to be a difficult match for some people, but there were also some decent weights caught. Simon Pavey, a real canal specialist, fished a brilliant match on very light tackle to catch eight carp for 72-3-0, including a fish of 13-13-0, all played very carefully on the pole in four feet of water with great skill for a fine win. In second place was Frank Bursnall, who having recently won two club matches weighed in 63-2-0 of carp caught on a maggot feeder fished tight to the island reeds, including a 14-12-0 carp for the biggest fish of the day. Third spot went to Stuart Pollmer with 33-1-0 of carp taken on bread, followed by Wood Lane regular Dave Mustoe with 32lbs for fourth. Section winners were Martin Smith, Roy Cadden and Stuart Pollmer. The next match and the start of this year’s knockout competition is at Pondwood on the snake on the 2nd of February. There are still nine matches to be fished in the championship, and with the pairs not having yet reached the half way stage, there is still everything to play for.

2 – Frank Bursnall – 63-2-0
