Mill Pond

24th November 2019

Frank Bursnall celebrated his eighty third birthday in style on Sunday by taking the honours in round twelve of the championship series at the Mill Pond. The match was very hard as the fish had moved into any available cover in the crystal-clear shallow water and were very reluctant to come out into the open. This meant that anyone without any type of feature to fish to really struggled as very few fish were caught out in open water. Frank however, bucked the trend by catching three carp on a maggot feeder from the same peg he drew in the match at this venue back in July, a catch that included a 12-2-0 carp which also won him the specimen on the day, making it a clean sweep and the perfect present for the birthday boy. Second place went to Glen Briggs who managed to tempt three carp and a few small roach by dobbing bread down his left and right margins, and third spot went to Martin Smith who caught a couple of good-sized carp fishing bread on the bomb. Section winners were Mike Smith, Fred Fairman and James Fletcher and as previously mentioned, the specimen was won by Frank. A big thank you to the AEC club for giving us the opportunity to fish the venue, and in particular to head bailiff Richard Gibbons and his team who worked hard to make sure the venue was in excellent condition for the match.
