Pondwood (Snake)

10th November 2019

The Pondwood snake was the venue for round eleven of the championship series and with the match being held on Remembrance Sunday, it was fitting that veteran angler Frank Bursnall took the honours on the day. Frank fished the pole and fed maggot and the occasional pot of groundbait to take a mixed bag for a total of 40-2-0. He made it a clean sweep by also winning the specimen on the day with a carp of 8-6-0, and to round off the day nicely he was first to the bar to pay for the post-match pint with the lads afterwards. The runner up spot went to ex forces man Jon Colman who was not far behind Frank with a weight 38-10-0. Jon fed micro’s and 4ml pellets and switched between maggot and meat hookbaits to catch mainly small carp plus a couple of bigger bonus fish, the biggest going 6-2-0. Third place went to Graham Fox with 29-8-0 with mainly small carp caught on a variety of methods which included dobbing bread and soft pellet. Graham was left kicking himself afterwards though, as he lost several big carp that cost him the win, due to a dodgy batch of hooks. Section winners were Glen Briggs and match captain Fred Fairman. All in all, it wasn’t a bad match considering the recent cold nights and the fact that there was a big match on the venue on the Saturday. Finally, it was nice to see Bill Parker again who is visiting following his move to Norfolk.
