Pondwood (Snake)

20th October 2019

Twenty anglers tuned up for the first of our three visits in the championship series to the Pondwood Snake on Sunday, for what turned out to be an interesting match with some decent weights and plenty of bites to be had by everyone. Doug Read scored his second win of the series with a very respectable 50-6-0 of carp from peg fourteen. Doug fished bunches of maggots tight to the reeds along the far bank and fed big pots of dead maggots periodically to keep the fish coming throughout the day. To stay in touch with them he had to keep shallowing up to a point where he ended up fishing just six inches deep. Second place and just a few ounces behind was Stuart Pollmer who managed to locate some good-sized carp by dobbing bread along the left far bank of peg twenty-one. Third was the super consistent Ryan Fairclough with 41-13-0 of small stockie carp, small Ide, roach and barbel. Section winners were Stuart Pollmer and Perry Fairclough and Stuart also won the specimen on the day with a carp of 6-7-0. In general it was a bit patchy, with the bigger carp seeming to be shoaled up together in some areas and the small stockies being quite tricky to catch and causing quite a lot of frustration for some. All in all, a good match though. We return to Pondwood for round eleven on the tenth of November.
