Old Bury Hill

15th September 2019

The lovely Old Bury Hill fishery was the venue for round six of the championship series, and with a decent turn out of twenty one anglers lining up, the scene was set for an interesting match. It was Glen Briggs who took the honours, scoring his first match win of the current series with an almost identical weight to what he won last years corresponding fixture at the same venue. Glen started on the method and set up two pole lines left and right at 11.5m which he fed carefully from the off. After two hours on the method which yielded only four skimmers, he came in on his pole lines to find the bream and skimmers had settled nicely in front of him. Although the sport wasn’t fast and furious, he managed to put 59-8-0 together for the win. Runner up was Ryan Fairclough who had 45-4-0 of mainly skimmers from his peg opposite the island. Ryan fished a method feeder with micro’s and dead maggot on the feeder and had to cast progressively longer to keep in touch with the skimmers as they backed off. Third place went to Graham Fox on peg two with 38-0-0 caught on a cage feeder loaded with dead maggot, micro’s and caster to compliment his double maggot hookbait. Section winners were Mike Smith, Simon Pavey and the in-form Keith Gibson. Simon also won the specimen with a bream of 4-2-0.
