Simon Pavey recorded his second win of the series in style, more than doubling the weight of his nearest rival at the Royal Berkshire fishery on Sunday.
The match was fished on two lakes (two and three) at the recently re-stocked venue, and it was the new F1’s that made up the bulk of Simon’s catch. Pegged on the causeway bank on lake two, Simon caught steadily at eleven metres fishing a single maggot hook bait over micro pellets until the last hour when sport slowed, but by then he’d already done enough damage to win comfortably.
Runner up Glen Briggs was pegged on the right hand point at the back of lake three. Glen had eighteen pounds of the new stockies which were supplemented with a late carp caught down the edge. Third place went to Graham Fox who was pegged in the swim called the fridge. Graham managed to mug a double figure carp on a single maggot hookbait as he spotted it on the surface, a move that helped him frame and win the specimen on the day. Section winners were Dave Mustoe, Ryan Fairclough and Bob Lane. Hero of the day was most definitely Declan Kelly who stripped off and went into the freezing cold lake to retrieve two pole sections for Ron Chenery who had accidentally knocked them into the water. Well done Declan.
All in all, it was a decent match with bites for everyone and we’re looking forward to returning to the same venue for round seventeen of the championship and the next round of the knockout in three weeks.
