Home Park Windsor – River Thames

7th October 2018

The Thames at Windsor was in excellent form for round seven of the championship series, giving up some terrific bags of quality roach for many of the nineteen competitors. Simon Pavey put in a magnificent performance and ran out a clear winner with 20-2-0 of roach of up to twelve ounces. Simon scored his first win of the series by fishing a slider one foot off the bottom, with many of his fish taking the bait on the drop, as they came up in the water to intercept his loose fed hemp and caster in the thirteen feet deep peg. Second place went to Glen Briggs who had a great day on the pole, fishing maggot over hemp and caster laced groundbait and soil and putting 17-1-0 on the scales. Declan Kelly continued his excellent run of form and took third spot fishing similar tactics but using leam instead of soil in his groundbait mix. Section winners were Perry Fairclough who had a superb 15-8-0 on the pole, and Gary Bloomfied who after a slow start really increased his catch rate by fishing a nine metre whip to hand to finish with 10-14-0. Also worth mentioning is a two pound perch caught by Mike Smith which took a liking to his single maggot hookbait. That fish becomes the biggest perch if the series so far and Incidentally, Mike lost an even bigger one later at the net. Next Sunday is our last river match of the series at Strand on the Green. Let’s hope the bream are feeding…
