Milton Pools

Perry Fairclough with one of his match winning carp. This latest win see’s Perry move up to joint fifth in the league table

25th February 2018

Twenty one anglers arrived at a bitterly cold Milton Pools fishery to do battle in round sixteen of the club championship on Sunday, a superb turnout for the club in such harsh winter conditions. With the start of the match delayed for ice breaking and a cold easterly wind blowing, the weights were always going to be pegged back and the match was going to be tight. Perry Fairclough needed only 21-15-0 to take top spot on the day. Drawn in the side pond off of the main Len’s lake, Perry fished the pole at thirteen metres to take carp up to 7-9-0 to finish just over three pounds ahead of second placed angler Alan Bright who had 18-13-0 of carp on the feeder in Len’s. In third place was League leader Graham Fox with 16-11-0 of skimmers and carp from Kidney lake and section winners were Fred Fairman (Len’s), Bob Lane (Len’s) and Keith Gibson (Kidney). There was drama at the weigh in, as Alan Bright went to collect his keepnet for the scales, the edge of the bank caved in and he ended up chest deep in freezing cold water! To his credit, Alan took it in his stride and even managed a smile for the match report photo even though he must have been freezing. With only three rounds to go, the championship race is extremely close between Graham Fox and Glen Briggs and there are several anglers in contention for third place with a current three way stand off for fifth place. What a great series we are having this time ….

Alan Bright fished a tidy feeder match to take carp periodically throughout the day to earn a well deserved runner up spot A superb performance by Graham Fox to finish in third spot. A late run of carp boosted his weight to score mega points Match Captain and section winner Fred Fairman needed only 12-0-0 to finish fourth overall in this tight match
