Match winner Declan Kelly brought to bear the experience gained following frequent visits to the emerald Isle to win round five of the series
3rd September 2017
A super turnout of twenty seven anglers lined up at Old Bury Hill for the fifth round of the championship series. With mild temperatures, cloud cover and a breeze creating a ripple on the surface the conditions seemed almost perfect for the venues bream to feed and although there were not any huge hauls there were fish to be caught for everyone. When Declan Kelly drew just past the island (permanent peg 38) many of us thought we’d be fishing for second place and that’s just how it turned out. Declan’s bream fishing experience stood him in good stead as he won with a 34-2-0 bag of bream and skimmers taken on long range feeder tactics. Second place went to Fred Fairman with 29-8-0 followed by a close battle for third between Glen Briggs 28-8-0 and Graham Fox 28-2-0. Section winners were Bill Parker, Bob Lane and Mick Catten and the specimen was won by Roy Cadden with a bream of 4-8-0. Interestingly, there were two Zander caught on the day by father and son team Mick and Mick Catten jnr. As far as I’m aware, these are the first two zander ever caught in an Uxbridge Rovers club match. History in the making!
1 – Declan Kelly – 34-2-0
2 – Fred Fairman – 29-8-0
3 – Glen Briggs – 28-8-0
Roy Cadden – Bream – 4-8-0
