Bill Parker’s 12-1-0 was enough to win this low weight match at a difficult Billet Lane
23rd April 2017
Bill Parker continued his run of recent good form and won the final match of the series at a difficult Billet Lane on Sunday. Bill has won several times at this venue before and made no mistake when he drew the corner peg by the hut, an area known to hold bream and carp. The big story of the day though has to be that Mike Smith hooked a huge carp (estimated at twenty pounds) on the waggler in the last minute of the match, he skilfully played it on an 18 hook to 0.12 and eventually landed it. He proceeded to unhook the carp, it then started thrashing in the net which had a small tear in the bottom. The sheer weight of the thrashing carp opened up the tear and the carp fell through and escaped back into the lake! We all felt gutted for Mike but there was a consolation in that he caught a 2-1-0 perch to beat Alan Bright’s Milton Pools specimen by eight drams. Although the fishing was hard it certainly wasn’t an uneventful day! Keith Gibson finished in third place and Ron Chenery was fourth.
1 – Bill Parker – 14-1-0
2 – Mike Smith – 10-9-8
3 – Keith Gibson – 10-7-8
Glen Briggs – Bream – 5-2-8
